The girlie girl’s guide to living on your own

Although I lived away from home for the 4 years I was in university I was always surrounded by other people, living with 4 other girls. It always seemed as though there was someone else around to do something I couldn’t/didn’t want to (ok, mostly it was “didn’t want to”). So now living completely on my own I’m learning a lot about doing stuff without any help. Though there are quite a few “girl’s guide to…” books out there (including this one which is clearly on my shopping list) but none of them really include stuff important stuff like “how to not shrink your clothes so only babies can wear them.” So here are some things that I’ve learned in the past week or so:

1. The toilet will clean itself, just leave the cleaner in there for about a half hour then flush.

2. If you can’t find the blades for the utility knife you bought, get a screwdriver and open it up…they’re inside.

3. A multi-tool is priceless.

4. If you’re using a drill to hang anything, make sure it’s not set on reverse, this greatly hinders what you’re trying to accomplish.

5. CLR will clean every stain you don’t care about and never the ones you do. Totally not worth what you’ll pay for it.

6. Read the instructions.

7. The silence takes some getting used to but once you do it’s blissful.

    2. If you have to open your utility knife to find the blades, you went cheap.

    3. Remember where you got the multi-tool from.

    4. If you have a drill, then I am betting I won’t be able to find mine.

    7. The silence at home is blissful tooo!!
