Nadia made the blog!!!

June 28, 2006

Last night at the baseball game Nadia (on the left) told me it was her life’s aspiration to make my blog, so I decided to indulge her. She will now promptly go and change her msn name to “I made Jenn’s blog!”

Great game, by the way. If you’ve got a free evening, check out the Jays’ schedule it’s only $9 for the cheap seats, that’s less than seeing a movie!

This guy is crazy

June 23, 2006

I got an email a while ago from a guy telling me about the blog that he was writing, and having gotten emails like this before only to follow the link and be led to something related to porn, I clearly was not about to go check it out. I let it sit in my inbox for a while, forgetting to delete it, and I came across it the other day and actually went and read a bit of the blog and surprisingly found it interesting!

This guy lives in Toronto and has taken a position at Durham College in Oshawa and instead of hopping on the bandwagon with about a million other people that drive alone in their cars to and from work every day, he’s making the trek on his BICYCLE. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, and and case you were wondering it’s a 65km distance each way, which makes a grand total of 130km a day. A little nuts, but definitely determined to make a good point.

You can check it out here.

Cheers to…me!

I threw a much-stressed-about housewarming party on Friday night to finally celebrate my new digs (three and a half months isn’t too late is it?). It’s always a stressful thing when your different worlds collide in one small, sweaty room.
Add a little alcohol into the mix, however, and everything went off without a hitch. Big thanks go out to Doe who actually had the presence of mind enough to continue to make shooters throughout the night (they were yummy!) while I continued to drink them and forget about hostess-like things I should have been doing.

Oh, and good job Lisa!

Pop Slut Video

June 15, 2006

In keeping with this week’s theme of sluts and lushes, here’s the new video from Paris Hilton. Oh yeah, it’s the “pop up video” version. Hope you enjoy her molesting herself, a boy and a palm tree in the same 3 angles over and over again.

The "new" Oshawa

June 14, 2006

Over the past few years since leaving my hometown and moving to the big city, more than a few times I’ve been called a bit of a snob. I’ll be the first to admit that during my first year of university I definitely was. Every time I came home I’d pout and stomp around in my pointy-toed boots (which had made it to the Toronto style scene at the time but hadn’t gotten to Oshawa yet) complaining how shitty Oshawa is and that I wanted to back to the city, where all my friends, new boyfriend and basically my new life was.

Recently, especially since moving out on my own and realizing that I will likely never live in Oshawa again, I’ve started to appreciate it more. There’s always a special place in my heart for the place that I grew up. Most people who live there rag on it for parts being a bit “skidly” especially the south end and downtown area, and also being a “lunch box community” because of the huge amount of the population that’s employed my GM. For some reason, when I joke about the same things that everyone else does, I get called a snob. Why is this? Have I lost my right to jokingly rib my hometown by moving?

To be honest, Oshawa has made some really great strides towards becoming a better city. With the building of a new university (UOIT) adjacent to the college (Durham) a lot more money has come into the city, and the striking thing that I noticed when I came home last weekend was the amount of construction everywhere. There’s a new on-ramp to the 401 going up at Stevenson Road, a new mall be built right next to it, the main street going through downtown is being torn up and replaced piece by piece and the biggest project is the sports and entertainment complex going up downtown, which everyone hopes will bring more business to the downtown area after 6pm and drive some of the hookers and drug dealers out.

So props to Oshawa, way to put on some fancy pants. I hope they fit and wear well.

And I’m not a snob.

I swear I’ll never drink again….

June 12, 2006

Ok, at LEAST until next Friday.

I had a very rare weekend of two nights of heavy drinking in a row. Friday night started with a work event at the Docks driving range, which then proceeded to a restaurant and then a bar after. Not a super messy night, but I definitely was feeling it the next day.

Some of my favourite pics from the docks:

After the Docks:

Saturday I headed home to the shwa for some family events, which ended up including a night out with my two sisters at Tequila Willy’s (with much arm twisting on my sisters’ part, I just wanted to sleep at that point). That night ended up being a little more sloppy than the previous. Carolyn was the funniest though.

The three of us looking all prim and proper (that’s my mom’s finger in the way).

This is me proving that I’m in a country bar. You can kind of make out the band in the background. They’re all wearing cowboy hats.

Carolyn going a liiiiittle too hard.

And the end result:

You can see the rest of the photos on my flickr

Don’t be this guy

June 6, 2006

I was in Niagara this weekend, and my friends and I went to bar at the Sheraton to see a local band. The real entertainment, however was this guy:

Yes, these pictures are exactly what they look like, a grown man passed out drunk in a bar. The best part was when security asked his friends had to take him outside. They sat him down on a bench outside the front door, then they came back inside to finish their beers. Great friends.
