This guy is crazy

I got an email a while ago from a guy telling me about the blog that he was writing, and having gotten emails like this before only to follow the link and be led to something related to porn, I clearly was not about to go check it out. I let it sit in my inbox for a while, forgetting to delete it, and I came across it the other day and actually went and read a bit of the blog and surprisingly found it interesting!

This guy lives in Toronto and has taken a position at Durham College in Oshawa and instead of hopping on the bandwagon with about a million other people that drive alone in their cars to and from work every day, he’s making the trek on his BICYCLE. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, and and case you were wondering it’s a 65km distance each way, which makes a grand total of 130km a day. A little nuts, but definitely determined to make a good point.

You can check it out here.

Go back and check his site again…he ‘fessed up…only done the ride once.

Yeah yeah yeah. The point is that someone decided not to just hop in their car and contribute to our already congested roads and polluted air. It’s bringing attention to the fact that the millions of people doing the regular morning commute is becoming a huge problem and we need a viable alternative.

Just keep reading, I’m sure he’ll be doing it more often in the future.

Yeah yeah yeah. What a waste of valuable time. If you live and work in Toronto, then PT is the way to go. If you live in the ‘burbs, PT isn’t good enough to get you from Oshawa to Ajax in under 2 hours.

I distinctly remember a daughter who wouldn’t put up with having to catch the train @ 7:30, and get back to Oshawa by 7:00, ’cause it just wasted so much time.

Shouldn’t be pushing something you wouldn’t do…or some dummy who eventually won’t waste half his life riding to work.

Yikes! Jen’s Dad is tough! See my blog for the couple more rides I’ve done this week. A waste of valuable time? Is exercise a waste of valuable time?
And is a mix of biking / public transit really impossible for this commute? Will I eventually cave and buy a car?
I doubt it. I think if people read enough on the peak oil / environment issue they’ll realize that oil is over, and that it’s time to start saying no to a dying technology – one that does more harm than good.

Jenn’s Dad isn’t tough, he’s a crotchety old man who sits in is comfortably air conditioned car on his drive into work through suburbia, who believes that he’ll never see the end of peak oil in his life and therefore doesn’t care!

Build a car that doesn’t use gas, and costs the same, I will be in line to buy it.

I would even use PT if it could get me to/from my job in about the same time…it is cheaper for sure.

I don’t see either happening out in suburbia, so I am not going to gamble my life, and 3 hours a day riding a bicycle to work.

Exercise can be gotten safely by walking…on a sidewalk where there is less chance of meeting a car.

Plenty of people ride bikes to work, when it is a reasonable distance, but from Toronto to Oshawa is nuts…in my crotchety old opinion…-)

Tuco…good luck with your riding…you are still nuts!
