Flickr porn

Frankly, I didn’t really want to write about this because porn already gets more attention than it deserves, but Slava seemed to think that this was a very important issue that needed to be addressed. Wonder why.

People are using Flickr to share amateur porn, and in a very sneaky way. I got an email a couple weeks ago announcing that someone had added me as a contact on Flickr. Not recognizing the name I took a quick look over at their site to see who my new friend was. My new friend was not a friend at all! It was someone broadcasting their naughty bits all over Flickr. I was quite outraged and immediately began looking for the “report this photo” button…but it wasn’t there! Why? Because this person marked all their photos as viewable by family only, added me as a family member. Honestly, I’m touched, but please leave me alone. Maybe “touched” wasn’t the right word there *shudder*.

I quickly forgot about it, but was rudely reminded when I looked over at my google desktop, and google – being the nice and helpful people that they are – had added the feed from the photo page to the photos on my google desktop, so I had a big, naked bum staring at me in the face. Aahhhhhh!!!

In the next few days I got about 10 more people welcoming me into their family. Somehow, after this first person added me I got into this underground Flickr porn ring! Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Make it stop! They’re likely using some sort of bot to access other people’s contacts, then adding them as family. Does flickr know about this? I’m sure this violates their use agreement.

The other big question I have is Why? How are people making money doing this? Are the genuinely just doing it because they get off on people looking at their hoohoos? If anyone else has insights into this feel free to share them, because I’ve already spent way more time than I care to on this issue.
